1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small files or similar identifiers that a website may store on a user's device or access from the device when the user visits a website.

They can allow a website to remember information, maintain a secure session, provide functionality, remember preferences or perform other functions.

Similar technologies may also include certain forms of browser storage or other mechanisms that store or access information on a user's device.

Not every technology used by a website is legally considered a cookie, and this Cookie Policy distinguishes cookies from other forms of technical storage where relevant.

PEQUEDU is responsible for the cookies and similar technologies used directly by the PEQUEDU website, subject to the role of any independent third-party provider where applicable.

3. Why does PEQUEDU use cookies?

PEQUEDU may use cookies and similar technologies for purposes including:

  • maintaining secure user sessions;
  • keeping users authenticated;
  • protecting registration and account functionality;
  • preventing abuse and automated attacks;
  • maintaining security;
  • remembering necessary technical preferences;
  • remembering cookie-consent choices;
  • enabling website functionality; and
  • other purposes that are technically necessary for the service.

Where PEQUEDU uses cookies that are not strictly necessary for the requested service, PEQUEDU will request consent where required by applicable law.

4. Strictly necessary and technical cookies

Strictly necessary cookies are cookies that are required for the website or a service specifically requested by the user to operate.

Depending on the PEQUEDU implementation, these may include cookies required for:

  • PHP session management;
  • authentication;
  • account security;
  • CAPTCHA/security protection;
  • CSRF/security protection;
  • maintaining the user's session;
  • maintaining necessary application state;
  • remembering the selected language where technically necessary;
  • remembering cookie-consent preferences; and
  • other essential website functions.

Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent where they fall within the applicable legal exemption for technical cookies.

PEQUEDU nevertheless provides information about them for transparency.

5. Authentication and account sessions

When a user logs into PEQUEDU, technical session mechanisms may be required to keep the user securely authenticated while navigating the service.

Without these mechanisms, PEQUEDU would not be able to provide secure account functionality.

These technologies are therefore treated as strictly necessary where they are used solely for this purpose.

Where a user chooses a remember-me option at login, PEQUEDU may also set a first-party authentication cookie (pequedu_remember) to restore the session on a subsequent visit to the same browser. This cookie is used only for login persistence requested by the user and is not used for advertising or behavioural tracking.

6. Security and CAPTCHA

PEQUEDU uses security mechanisms to help prevent automated registrations, abuse and attacks.

The PEQUEDU registration process includes CAPTCHA protection.

The CAPTCHA implementation uses server-side session storage associated with the PHP session cookie to link a challenge with the current registration session. PEQUEDU does not use a third-party CAPTCHA provider for this purpose.

These mechanisms are used for security and are not used by PEQUEDU for advertising or behavioural tracking.

7. Cookie-consent preference

Where PEQUEDU asks for consent to non-essential cookies, PEQUEDU may store a technical record of the user's cookie preference.

This allows PEQUEDU to remember whether the user:

  • accepted;
  • rejected; or
  • configured

non-essential cookies.

The consent-preference mechanism is necessary to respect the user's choice and avoid repeatedly displaying the same consent request.

At the time of publication, PEQUEDU stores this preference in the browser's localStorage under the key pequedu_cookie_consent. This record contains the consent choice, applicable policy version and timestamp. It does not contain the user's email address, password or payment information.

8. Optional cookies and consent

If PEQUEDU uses cookies or similar technologies that are not strictly necessary for the requested service, they will not be activated before the required consent has been obtained.

Consent must be:

  • freely given;
  • specific;
  • informed;
  • unambiguous; and
  • capable of being withdrawn.

Refusing optional cookies must be as straightforward as accepting them.

Continuing to browse the website without taking an affirmative consent action does not constitute consent.

At the time of publication, PEQUEDU does not use optional analytics, advertising or marketing cookies on the website. The consent mechanism is nevertheless provided for transparency and for any future optional categories that may be introduced.

9. Cookie consent banner

When consent is legally required, PEQUEDU displays a cookie-consent notice when the user first accesses the website.

The notice provides access to the Cookie Policy and allows the user to make an informed choice.

The consent interface is designed so that accepting and rejecting optional cookies are presented clearly and without deliberately making rejection more difficult.

Where optional categories exist, the user may also configure them.

The banner does not treat continued browsing or inactivity as consent.

10. Changing or withdrawing cookie consent

Users must be able to change or withdraw their consent to optional cookies after their initial choice.

PEQUEDU will provide an accessible mechanism for reopening the cookie-preference settings.

Changing the preference will affect the future use of optional cookies where technically applicable.

Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before consent was withdrawn.

Strictly necessary cookies may continue to operate where they are required for the requested service.

On public PEQUEDU pages, the cookie-preference settings can be reopened using the Cookie Settings link in the public help and information navigation.

11. Cookie categories used by PEQUEDU

PEQUEDU maintains a current description of the categories of cookies and similar technologies actually used by the website.

The lists below reflect the PEQUEDU implementation at the time of publication. They do not include technologies that PEQUEDU does not use.

11.2 Other browser storage used by PEQUEDU (not HTTP cookies)

PEQUEDU also uses browser storage mechanisms that are not HTTP cookies. These are listed separately because they are technically distinct from cookies, although they may store or access information on the user's device.

Client-side storage used for authenticated PEQUEDU functionality is cleared on explicit logout through PEQUEDU's logout cleanup mechanism, except for the cookie-consent preference record and any browser data the user removes manually.

11.3 Optional categories

At the time of publication, PEQUEDU does not use separate optional preference, analytics or marketing cookie categories on the website.

12. First-party cookies

First-party cookies are cookies placed by PEQUEDU's own website or infrastructure.

Where PEQUEDU uses first-party cookies, they may be used for technical functionality, authentication, security, preferences or other purposes described in this Cookie Policy.

At the time of publication, the first-party HTTP cookies used by PEQUEDU are PHPSESSID and, where applicable, pequedu_remember.

13. Third-party cookies

Third-party cookies are cookies or similar technologies placed or controlled by a third party.

PEQUEDU will identify relevant third-party technologies where they are actually used.

A third-party provider may process information according to its own privacy documentation and contractual arrangements with PEQUEDU.

PEQUEDU will not claim that a third-party service is used unless it is actually part of the website implementation.

13.1 Google Fonts on game pages

Certain PEQUEDU game pages load a display font from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com).

When a user's browser requests these resources, Google may process technical connection data and may set or access cookies on Google's own domains according to Google's policies. These technologies are controlled by Google, not by PEQUEDU's first-party application cookies.

At the time of publication, PEQUEDU does not embed third-party analytics, advertising or social-media tracking scripts on the website.

14. Stripe and payment services

PEQUEDU uses Stripe for subscription payment processing.

Stripe may use cookies or similar technologies on Stripe-operated pages or in connection with payment functionality.

The PEQUEDU Cookie Policy distinguishes between:

  • cookies directly controlled by PEQUEDU; and
  • technologies used by Stripe or other independent third parties in connection with their own services.

Where a user is redirected to a Stripe-hosted payment page, the applicable Stripe privacy and cookie information may also apply.

PEQUEDU does not intentionally store complete payment-card numbers or card security codes in its own application database.

At the time of publication, PEQUEDU does not load Stripe payment widgets or Stripe JavaScript directly in the PEQUEDU website pages audited for this policy. Payment processing occurs through Stripe's own checkout or billing environment when the user initiates a subscription payment.

15. Analytics and measurement

At the time of publication, PEQUEDU does not describe any analytics or audience-measurement cookies unless such technologies are actually present in the website implementation.

If analytics technologies are introduced in the future, PEQUEDU will update this Cookie Policy and implement the required consent mechanism before activating non-essential analytics cookies where consent is required.

16. Advertising and marketing cookies

PEQUEDU does not describe advertising or behavioural-marketing cookies unless such technologies are actually used.

If PEQUEDU introduces advertising or behavioural tracking technologies in the future, the Cookie Policy will be updated and the applicable consent mechanism will be implemented before such non-essential technologies are activated where consent is legally required.

17. Social media and external services

PEQUEDU may maintain social-media accounts or provide links to external services in the future.

A simple external link does not necessarily place a cookie on the PEQUEDU website.

Where PEQUEDU embeds third-party content or services that introduce cookies or similar technologies, the Cookie Policy will be updated where necessary.

At the time of publication, PEQUEDU does not embed social-media widgets or social-tracking technologies in the website pages covered by this policy.

18. Children and cookie consent

PEQUEDU uses an adult-controlled account model.

The adult account holder creates and controls the PEQUEDU account and its Profiles.

Children do not independently create PEQUEDU accounts.

Where PEQUEDU processes optional cookies requiring consent, the consent mechanism is directed to the website user and, where appropriate to the service context, the adult account holder responsible for the account.

PEQUEDU does not intentionally use cookies to build advertising profiles of Profiles or children.

19. Browser settings

Users can also manage cookies through their browser settings.

Most modern browsers allow users to:

  • view stored cookies;
  • delete cookies;
  • block cookies;
  • allow cookies;
  • block third-party cookies; and
  • configure other storage preferences.

Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent parts of PEQUEDU from functioning correctly.

Browser controls do not necessarily provide the same granular choices as the PEQUEDU cookie-preference mechanism.

20. Cookie duration

Cookie duration depends on the purpose of the relevant technology.

Session cookies may expire when the browser session ends or when the relevant session is terminated.

Persistent cookies may remain for a defined period.

PEQUEDU will identify the applicable duration of individual cookies in the technical cookie inventory where applicable.

Consent-preference storage will be retained only for the period reasonably necessary to remember the user's choice, subject to applicable law and PEQUEDU's consent-management implementation.

At the time of publication:

  • PHPSESSID is configured with a maximum lifetime of up to 90 days;
  • pequedu_remember expires after up to 90 days unless revoked earlier; and
  • pequedu_cookie_consent in localStorage remains until the user clears browser storage or a new policy version requires renewed consent.

21. Updates to this Cookie Policy

PEQUEDU may update this Cookie Policy when:

  • the website changes;
  • new technologies are introduced;
  • existing technologies are removed;
  • legal requirements change; or
  • PEQUEDU's cookie practices otherwise change.

The current version will always be made publicly available through the PEQUEDU website.

PEQUEDU's use of cookies and similar technologies is governed by applicable legislation, including where applicable:

  • Spanish data-protection legislation; and
  • applicable European Union requirements concerning consent and electronic communications.

PEQUEDU will apply the requirements applicable to the actual technologies used by the website.

24. Language versions

This Cookie Policy is made available in:

  • English;
  • German;
  • Spanish; and
  • Valencian.

English is the master language version used by PEQUEDU.

Translations are provided for accessibility.

If an unintended discrepancy exists between translations, the English master represents the intended PEQUEDU wording, subject always to mandatory legal rights applicable to the user.
